R1200RT

I purchased a new 2006 R1200RT as a replacement for a 2003 K1200RS.  The RS was an excellent, quite capable bike. One of my favorite pastimes with it was sneaking up on squids and then passing them!  The expression on their face when a sport tour bike with luggage passes them was priceless.   However, the RS was heavy, complex, hard to maintain and had a short fuel range (160 miles/tank).  I wanted something that better suited to long distance touring.

The RT is a extremely capable bike that has not disappointed me from mile one.  Day one saw 350 new miles on the fun meter and it was back at the dealer for its run-in maintenance the next day.  It doesn't have the oh-my-god performance of the RS, but I don't miss that one little bit.  The RT is a very comfy ride with a 300 mile fuel range and all the right toys.  The heated hand grips and seat come in very handy when you live in the North Country.  The electrically adjustable windshield keeps just the right amount of wind on me for cold or hot days.
